ALBUM REVIEW: The Nail - The Nail

The Nail

Not to be confused with Grindcore bruisers Nails, we bring you the debut offering by The Nail, a band built around powerhouse vocalist Girish Pradhan (Girish and the Chronicles, The End Machine). It’s a classic rock/metal album, spread over the 11 tracks we get 52-minutes of 80’s style soft metal, with great guitar solos courtesy of lead guitarist Efe Eroglu and a solid backing from his brother Reis Ali Eroglu on the other instruments (Drums, bass and rhythm guitar).

The album opens with lead single Hit and Run. It has a riff very reminiscent of Rammstein, but it’s the vocals that dominate. At one point in the chorus, Girish hits a high note that really grated on me, this was repeated on the next chorus, but it’s a minor quibble. They do hit harder on some songs, like No Time to Burn, but it still stays very much in the 80's metal vein. The drums in particular are solid, with little in the way of histrionics and they can also do a nice semi acoustic intro; this is noticeable on the guitar on Walk The Line in particular, but once that is over it’s back to softer rock.

The Nail

The harder edge is very much on display on Soul Screamer, which is like a parody of Judas Priest's Painkiller, whilst Blackout (Popeye's Sin) shows a bit of chug , and is a real highlight, with an undercurrent of brooding menace. I found that parts of the album was a bit repetitive in style, with the vocals set somewhere between Bon Jovi and Alice In Chains, with backing by Def Leppard. However, it was enjoyable overall, and if 80's hard rock is your thing, give this a try, it certainly didn’t offend me one bit!

The Nail is released on 13th September via Frontiers Music

Dark and evocative, The End is a new single by a man who I’m most used to seeing throwing shapes and churning out heavy metal riffage. Chris...
