Thrasherwolf Live at The Sub Blackpool, 5/04/25
Nestled amongst kebab shops and karaoke bars sits a little yellow music bar/venue. It’s Beatles-themed, mainly around The Yellow Submarine. This is the venue for tonight’s thrash metal party. First impressions of the place are nice, with friendly staff and a clientele ready for some live music.
Blacklist are waiting in the wings, and by the time it’s their turn to shine they seem pumped and ready. Their thrash aggression immediately hits the crowd in the face. They are fast, sharp and incredibly precise. There is always a sense of anger and menace around a Blacklist performance, and tonight is no exception. The local boys quickly tear through their set with guitarist /vocalist Tyler Larkin leading the charge. Heads bang on stage and off, while the rapid riffs assault the Blackpool air. A tribute to Slayer completes this very professional display. Their 2024 album “With Murderous Intent” is well worth checking out if you haven’t already.
It’s time for the southerners to shine as Thrasherwolf begin their headline set. They are touring their “Inside The Sickened Mind” album at the moment, and they begin the show win the same manner, with “Final Act Of Aggression”. It’s a raging thrash number with riffs and guitar skills running through it. Talking of guitarists, Thrasherwolf have a new one on this tour, Brody Thomson. He seems to have no issue with the speedy, intricate style of Thrasherwolf, and fits in well.
Front man and pack leader Dan (guest on Episode no 16 of The Miserable Metal Mind Podcast) is already an accomplished front man and revels in the limelight.
Many of the tracks performed are obviously from the excellent album they are touring, but some older gems still shine in this set.
Bass player Raimonds Dobelis was born to be a rock star, he attacks his four strings with confidence, dexterity and the correct heavy metal poses. Zac Razaq sits at the back behind his kit, both calm and sharp keeping the thrash vibe at the forefront.
Credit must be given also to the venues sound, some smaller venues think the ideal level for a metal gig is all turned up to eleven, tonight’s sound is certainly loud but allowing for all to be heard well.
The boys finish this polished set with the title track from their new album before the dust settles to the floor.
These many live gigs the Wolf Pack are endeavouring on are helping them become a very tight and professional entertaining prospect.
